Stephen P. Spriggs II, 36, Carmel, IN passed from this world on February 22, 2011 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Stephen was born in Portsmouth, OH on September 17, 1974, where he grew up playing sports. He graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1993 and from Miami University in 1997 with a B.A. in Sociology and a Minor in Political Science. Stephen’s work consisted of case management for mentally ill adults in Hamilton, OH and for developmentally disabled individuals in Indianapolis, IN. Most recently, Stephen served as the Director of Operations for Together We Can, Inc., providing services for the developmentally disabled population. Stephen’s greatest joy in his work was to help make a positive difference in the lives of those he served. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his wife, Laura (Russell) and daughter, Annabella; his parents, Pat and Alice Spriggs of Portsmouth, OH; his brother, David of Xenia, OH (wife: Bethany, children: Alyssa and Connor); his sister, Amanda of Portsmouth, OH; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws and good friends. A memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 1:00pm at Christ Community Church (2205 25th Street, Portsmouth, OH, 45662, 740-353-1633). A visitation time will start at 12:00pm and a celebration will be held at The Portsmouth Brewing Company at 6:00pm (224 Second Street, Portsmouth, OH 45662, 740-354-6106). A memorial celebration will follow in Indianapolis on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 11:30am at All Souls Unitarian Church (5805 E. 56th St., Indianapolis, IN 46226, 317-545-6005). The service will be preceded by a visitation at 10:30am and will be followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to an educational fund for his daughter (payable to: Stephen Spriggs Memorial Fund for Benefit of Annabella Spriggs, c/o Diane Christensen, The National Bank of Indianapolis, 107 N. Pennsylvania St., Ste. 100, Indianapolis, IN 46204). Stephen also often requested that for those that are able, please donate blood as this was a life giver to him for many months.
